Motherhood
(Disclaimer: The following post tends to get philosophical and sentimental and may lack its usual humor or sarcasm. Please don't hold it against me.) Our day hasn't been anything out of the ordinary so I would like to take this opportunity to share some thoughts on being a new mama. Of course, as everyone says, the moment your child is born is the most amazing moment of your life. But there are a ton of other amazing moments as time goes on with our little guy. It's been five weeks now and I feel like we've all learned a ton from each other since the beginning. Gee wiz (as Nanny would say) we were such rookies in the beginning! I think motherhood makes you appreciate the very small things in life. For example, the adorable sneezes of our newborn or the penguin sounds he makes at 3 in the morning...the peacefulness of him sleeping in the sling on my chest...the little smiles he gives us that seem to come out of the blue...the way he studies our faces...the patience he teaches us when we think we can do what we want when the reverse needs to be true...the new appreciation we have for sleep. If you want to experience a real sense of spirituality, it comes in the quiet of the wee hours of the morning when you are nursing your child and it is completely quiet in your house and your neighborhood--it feels like you and the baby are the only two people in the world. Amazing! Motherhood is the most intense, challenging, wonderful thing I have ever experienced.
