Third Annual Vegetable Garden

Even though Chris looks surprised (and I look like a Midwesterner), it is, in fact time to plant the vegetables! We don't have all the veggies we would like yet as we just went to one place yesterday but we are off to a good start. Chris was a huge help this afternoon getting the plants and herbs in. He helped me mix the soil and prep the beds and he also planted his own plants this year. Here are the beds after planting but before the fence went up...

So far we have lots of basil and parsley, oregano, peppers, eggplant, snap peas, cherry and regular tomatoes, zucchini, cilantro and sunflower seeds. We are still in the market for kale, swiss chard and lettuce which we hope to find in the next couple of weeks. Here is the garden, post fencing...

We are hoping the three foot fencing will keep all varmints (rabbits and dogs) out! The weekend was beautiful here in Kansas! Yesterday we spent a lot of the day outside. Here is one of the trees in the front that looks so beautiful and J too...

And Daddy and Mommy enjoyed a lovely night out last night courtesy of Grammy...

Signs of Spring!

We took our first trip of the season to Deanna Rose this morning with Grammy! It was lots of fun, a beautiful morning. Jonathan also got to visit their one room schoolhouse and found a desk just his size...
I think J enjoys the parks at Deanna Rose more than the animals!

Then he took a break on one of the bench swings with Grammy...
I cleaned up my gardens yesterday to prep them for planting. Apparently Holly thinks I did a good job!

Won't she be surprised when I put up the new 3 foot fencing this year. It's not so much to keep the bunnies out but to keep Holly and Athena out! And Jonathan has been using bubbles like crazy in all the nice weather this week.
Keep it coming spring!

This Week in Pictures

We've had a nice week in the Woglom household, recovering from a crazy Irish dance weekend and getting back to our routine. Here are a few pictures from the week!

Jonathan, Noah and Baby Christopher played together on Wednesday for just about 2 hours straight with no fussing, interrupting or drama! Lovely for Mommy, Tiffany and Leatha who could enjoy a peaceful visit...

J was also testing out Daddy's work shoes and looking mighty fine while doing so...

Meanwhile, the dogs (especially Athena) were being super lazy...

Such a tough life! This morning we took part in the Food Allergy Walk to support Christopher's friend Giles. A few of the boys from school were there and they ran the "walk" very quickly... Of course J was happy as always to see Zaira!

Finally we refueled after the big walk with a nutritious lunch at Chuy's!

Showcase Time

Just in case you didn't get enough Irish dancing in our last post, Christopher's dance school held its showcase today! It was great to see all the kids dancing up close, from the youngest to the oldest. I took a video of Chris dancing with Gabe and Smith to the advanced reel...

Another cool thing about the showcase was that we got to see the more advanced dancers up close. Here is a video of two of the older boys from his school. The boy in the white blazer recently went to the Irish Dancing World Championships in Glasgow!

Also, here are some other pictures from the feis yesterday that I took with my other camera...

First Feis!

Christopher had his first Irish Dance feis (pronounced "fesh") today. It was the Sunflower Feis at the Overland Park Convention Center and it was a great, albeit very loooooonnng, experience! We saw a lot of the championship dancers in the morning, including a boy from our school who went to Worlds last month. Then Chris had his shot, and he did not throw it away (see what I did there?). He danced in four dances and won three first places and one second! Here is the happy boy when he found out his results...

Here are the videos of his four dances starting with Reel (First Feis level). This is a soft shoe dance and he placed first in this one...

Next was Light Jig (First Feis level). Another soft shoe dance in which he placed first...

Here is Treble Jig (Beginner 2 level). This is a hard shoe dance and he placed second in this one...

Finally, Chris did Hornpipes (Beginner 2 level). He placed first in this hard shoe dance...

It was a very fun day and by the end of it, we learned more than we ever thought we'd need to know about how Irish Dance works. Congrats to our boy!
