First Royals Game!

Today we brought Christopher to his very first Royals game! We went to the game with the Eakin family and boy did we luck out with the weather. It was the first truly beautiful spring day we have had this season. The game was lots of fun and Chris lasted through the 9th! We got to the game a little early so we "tailgated," literally sitting on the tailgate of our car. Next time we will bring snacks and things to do for sure. Here are my boys at our impromptu tailgate:

We met Tristan and his family outside the gates and the boys were ready for some baseball...
Even though we were in the upper section, our seats were in the second row so we had a great view of the entire field:
Chris asked lots of questions about what was going on and really got into the clapping and cheering going on. Here he is contemplating a pitching move...
He also was checking the value of his first pack of baseball cards throughout the game, just like his daddy:
The boys really had a great time watching the Royals beat the Indians, 9 to 0! And after the game we went to a local restaurant called The Blue Moose where kids eat free when the Royals win. Even better! And we didn't even know it--a nice surprise!
This was a very fun weekend for everyone in the Woglom family. In addition to the ballgame, Chris went to Luca's 5th birthday party yesterday where everyone had a lot of fun at a Kindermusik themed party...
On Friday night, while Chris had a date night with Grammy, Mommy and Daddy went to a benefit for Operation Breakthrough, an education program I've been volunteering with that serves young children living in poverty in Kansas City. The benefit was so fun, complete with a silent and live auction, performances by the kids and good food and company. We had a great night and got to sit a table away from the mayor of Kansas City and barely five feet away from former Chief's coach, Dick Vermeil and his very large Super Bowl ring. It was a great night for a great cause! And this morning, I ran in my third Trolley Run. It is a four mile race that is perhaps one of my favorites. Although it wasn't my fastest time, it was a great day to run and 95% of the course is a gradual downhill. You can't ask for more! It was a busy and fun weekend and we all felt very much a part of the Kansas City community.

POTUS and Other Future Careers

So many calls on the red phone, so little time. When you are President of the United States at 4 1/2 years old, you are constantly on the phone making major diplomatic decisions... Today Christopher joined his buddy, Aidan, at a free exhibit at Crown Center called "Funville" which gave the kids opportunities to pretend to try out all kinds of different careers. It was very cool and Chris had a great time! Here are the co-commanders in chief getting ready to make big decisions from the Oval Office:
Another favorite for Chris was being the weatherman at the local news station:
And this being Kansas City, Chris has to give rodeo and Nascar a try too!

Good sense prevailed, however, and Chris joined the pro surfing circuit instead:
Chris and Aidan had a good time pretending to be veterinarians (and also the dogs in the vet's crate!):
Ultimately, Christopher decided that the best career would be to just be in charge of everything as POTUS. He was being wise too and channeling the founding father of our country, George Washington. Here's hoping GW has some good advice for CW...

Name that boy

Okay, so who is this handsome little man???
Don't worry, grandparents, you're all getting a copy. They did "dress up" pictures at school about a month ago and the prints just came in. They also had him dress up as a basketball player and some other persona that I can only describe as a bad 80s movie protagonist. Those pictures looked "just ridiculous" (which is, by the way, Christopher's new favorite phrase). This one, however, was really cute and it took me a minute to recognize that it was, in fact, my son!

Omaha, the Sequel

This past weekend, we revisited Omaha, a great little city in Nebraska just three hours north of us. If you will remember, we initially went to Omaha after Chris turned 2 and we went with the Titus family. The trip was similar except that this time, Chris didn't have to leave to zoo to go home and take a nap so we spent 5 1/2 hours walking around the zoo! And it was cold! Christopher is very into wild animals and likes to take on the persona of his favorite animal de jour. As you may know, since July of last year, Chris has been way into penguins. Currently, he loves big cats, particularly lions. And we were in luck at the zoo! They had 6 lion cubs that were born in December and they were so cute and playful! We went back twice to see them during our visit and just watched them play, cuddle and nurse. We also got a very close up view of a male lion in another cage...

And of course we spent a whole lot of time at the penguin pool! Chris even got to stand next to a picture of an emperor penguin to see how he would measure up.

While we were in Omaha, we ate at some really good restaurants, spent some time in an art gallery, went to the botanical gardens (although nothing was blooming yet!) and went to the Omaha Children's Museum which was so fun! Chris saw a lot of cool things there and got to play a lot before we trekked back to Kansas City. Here are some pictures from the museum. First you'll see some superheroes that were made from all found materials and then you'll see Chris being a mechanic and a firefighter.

And this was totally random but as Chris was taking a bath one night at the hotel, he busted out with a rendition of Dayenu, the song you sing at Passover. Now, Passover was weeks ago but I suppose it made an impression on him! Of course in Christopher's version, the word is Dayemu but it's close enough..

Old Friends

Although we've seen a lot of Christopher's friends over the past week or so, I don't always take pictures like I used to. Today, however, we saw one of Chris' oldest friends, Maddie, and her little sister Jenna. We met them at the Parkside Cafe to ride bikes and scooters and the kids had a lot of fun for over two hours! Here is a picture of the old friends, now almost 5...

The Christopher Digest

Just some goings on since I last posted, lest you thought I would never write another blog entry! We just don't take as many pictures as we used to but all of you readers inspire us to keep on documenting...

Last weekend we celebrated Elliot's second birthday at the Titus house. It turned out to be a beautiful day and Chris is at the point now where he just goes off and plays which is fabulous. Here is Elliot riding shotgun with Chris behind the wheel:
Notice Biscuit the dog is keeping an eye on the driver! Chris, Olivia and Elliot have been spending a lot of time together and it is so nice to see these guys grow up together. This week I watched the three of them while Jaime had her school conference and it was a pleasure to see Chris and Elliot racing back and forth and really interacting with each other. Little Elliot is kind of like a little brother to Chris and I am so grateful for that! Meanwhile, Olivia and I were writing stories together which was so incredibly fun too. Today, they rode bikes and scooters at an indoor gym because it's still cold here. I mean seriously, April. Get it together!

This week also included a playdate with Christopher's neighbor friend, John and his two sisters, Katie and Mary Jane. Here are Chris and John standing proudly next to the mega-long train they built:
The kids in the neighborhood are all playing together a lot more, especially when we did have a few warm days last weekend. It is great to have Chris ask if he can go over to Molly's house next door or the girls' house across the street. And it is so nice to have such sweet kids for Chris to play with. We'll see how long the older girls will put up with the boys tagging along but so far so good!

Today I had Christopher's school conference and it was cool to see how our little guy has progressed over the year. I got to see his work samples from October compared with some taken recently. Really fun stuff! It is hard for me to take off my teacher hat and put on my Mommy hat at such events but I think I did alright. The best thing Ms. Karen said was that she loves how Christopher's smile just lights up the whole room. We know that already but it's always nice to hear what a happy boy he is.

Finally, I measured Chris yesterday and weighed him as well and he is 45 pounds (which he has been for almost a year now). He is also 44.5 inches which puts him in the 93rd percentile for height. We haven't exposed him to much basketball yet but now that John has an adjustable hoop in his driveway, we may need to start encouraging that! He did root hard for Michigan during March Madness, after all...

Crazy Kasey time!

I know I've been slacking in April on the blog but here is a funny video of Kasey going crazy when Brian got home from work tonight! More updates about Christopher's goings on in the near future. Stay tuned!
