Open House

Tonight we had Christopher's open house at Pembroke! He was so excited to show us around his classroom and the rooms where he has his specials. My favorite part was looking through his journal and seeing how far he's come since the beginning of the year with his writing. My favorite thing as a teacher (and now as a mom) is to see how children develop in their writing and their invented spelling is the coolest ever! Here is an example of the writing in Chris' journal...

We also got to see the specials classrooms and one of Christopher's favorites this year is music. Here he is showing Jonathan how to play the xylophone... 

It was a fun evening seeing all of the hard work our big boy has done this year!

Playful Pups

It was a beautiful day in Kansas and since Jonathan's babysitter was here with him, I got to take my four legged kids to their park. The girls had a great time playing and getting their crazies out!

New Couch

The dogs are enjoying the new couch we got for them...

Also, I just read an article stating ten things new parents should NOT do. Now we're not technically new to this whole parenting thing but we do have a new baby. Number one on the list of things to not do was buy a new couch. Well we don't like to listen to those crazy lists anyway. 

Jonathan is happy to have some extra floor space (for now). 

And yes, the couch is a light color. And yes we do have two dogs... and a baby... and a 6 year old...

Nothin' But Net

Christopher spent the night at Grammy's last night so when he returned home today, he was so incredibly excited to see that our basketball net had been installed while he was gone! In fact, he was so fired up that he gave the post a hug...

The timing could not have been more perfect because the weather is gorgeous today and only getting better. You might notice that the net is lower than average. We got an adjustable net that goes low enough for all people over the age of five to take their turn at dunking. We are looking forward to many hours of basketball outside! Brian and Chris are currently out there involved in an intense game. I hear some trash talk so I may need to head out and be the referee!

Easter Egg Hunt

This morning Chris and I went over to Fairway Park for our church's Easter Egg hunt. It was chilly but fun! Jonathan stayed snuggly and warm at home with Daddy.

Well, we introduced rice cereal to Little J this morning and I'm not sure he knew what to think of it! He had a few bites of it, mixed in with his formula, and I think the whole experience of "eating" something rather than drinking it was shocking to our baby. He didn't get upset but he didn't exactly wolf it down. Chris decided to show Jonathan what to do by using a big spoon...

This morning was a little off anyway as Jonathan woke up at 5 so I fed him then and again when he woke up. I've read that you're supposed to give them their bottle first and then try the food but it's possible that two bottles and then food was too much for him. Anyway, we'll try again tomorrow!

New York, New York

We just returned home from a fabulous trip to New York, where Jonathan got to meet all of his east coast family and friends and both boys had a great time just playing with their cousins! Here are some highlights from all the fun the cousins had. There are far too many pictures for me to put up so I will choose some of my favorites...

It was the best kind of vacation, filled with family, friends, and lots of laughs!

New Favorite Game

The Green Machine

Chris got his new bike today! The next size up is quite a bit bigger than the bike he's had for the last three years but he was able to ride it and got the hang of the handle brakes quickly. The bike has become quite personal to him and as he is a pilot in training, he referred to the bike as "her." For example, "I have to take her out for a spin." The boy loves his bike!

J and I spent the afternoon at Loose Park along with the rest of Kansas City on this gorgeous day!

Whenever we brought out the camera when Chris was a baby, he would ham it up and smile all day long. Jonathan is not such an easy audience. In fact we are going to start calling him Captain Serious!

Pushing up

Jonathan's new favorite thing is to push up (briefly) onto all fours. Sometimes he'll even push himself back. Slow down buddy! Mommy's not ready to chase you around yet! Here is a little taste. Of course, he did it a million times before I got the camera but he at least did it once here...
