Our big boy started first grade this morning! We are so proud of him and so excited for what this year will bring. First grade was my favorite grade to teach because the kids are just so cool and make huge improvements over this year. I hope Chris loves being in it as much as I loved teaching it!

Sweet J Sounds
Here is a little video of Jonathan making some cute sounds yesterday. I want to remember these forever!
Oh yeah, and just for consistency we saw the Blue Angels again today but it was from quite a distance. We heard them at our house (you can't really mistake the sound of an F-18 engine!) so we went outside and we ended up seeing one of them going straight up with its smoke on and then diving down. So cool!

Even More Blue Angels
We can't get enough of the Blue Angels! After our little visit yesterday to the Downtown Airport, we heard that the Navy team was going to be practicing later that afternoon at 3. The person who told us that information also said that sometimes the "day before" practice is better than the show because they throw in a couple extra moves. Anyway, we went with Grammy up to the Liberty Memorial (a high spot above Union Station with a beautiful view of downtown) and we were able to see a lot! It was very cool to see the Blue Angels flying right over our fair city!
So it was a nice day again today and since we weren't going to the actual airshow, Chris and I went back to see the Blue Angels again. It never gets old watching them and we always find nice Kansas Citians to talk to while we wait to see the show. Here is a short video of a fairly close flyby...

More Blue Angels
One of the benefits of starting school after everyone else is that while all the other kids are in class, Chris gets to hang out at the downtown airport with his version of celebrities--the Blue Angels. We didn't get to see any of the pilots but it was way cool to get this close to such cool airplanes!

Blue Angels
Oh you know, it's just the Blue Angels, practicing over Kansas City... We went to have lunch with Brian and just by chance, the Blue Angels were practicing at the downtown airport. This video is not the greatest visually but the excitement in this little boy's voice is infectious!

Deanna Rose
Today was Jonathan's first trip to Deanna Rose! We met Grammy over at the farm and Christopher proceeded to tell J about everything he was seeing. J loved the animals and laughed every time he saw one.

Union Station
I took the boys to Union Station this afternoon. Looks like we may have another train boy on our hands!

Happy Birthday Noah!
We met our Nanny Clan friends this morning at Fairway Park to celebrate Noah's first birthday! His actual birthday is Wednesday but most of the kids start school that day so we celebrated with some play and cupcakes this morning. It was a fun time and we are so thankful to have all these kids and their nannies in our lives!

The Plane! The Plane!
The picture above does no justice, both to the excitement of our now 7 year-old about a plane whose landing gear automatically folds up (among other things) and to the amount of pieces that went into constructing said plane. Our gift to Christopher for his 7th birthday was this Lego Technic cargo plane. Technic is awesome because it has some battery-operated features and in this case it includes the landing gear, working propellers/wing flaps/ailerons, and an opening cargo bay. You can imagine our boy's excitement! It is also the longest we've worked to put together a Lego structure. Chris and I worked on it together a little bit each day for a week. Then I stayed up late finishing it one night so that he could actually play with it. He is having a blast!

Back East Part 2
The view in the picture above is from the yard of Grandpa T's house. When we were upstate on this trip, we spent practically our entire time outside with views like this. It was a very fun trip up there. Chris learned how to fish from his grandpa and we spent a lot of time with step cousins and, of course, all of Grandpa's dogs! Here are some pictures from the second half of our trip...
