Last Game

Chris had his final baseball game of the season today. Then the boys went out for pizza. What better way to end the season than at Pizza 51!

J Updates

Well yesterday we took Jonathan to the park and he went on his first swing ride. He loved it! Also, JJ is crawling farther each day and getting into all kinds of good stuff. This morning he was helping me look for some new recipes for this week's dinners...
And last night (and today) the craziest thing happened. Now, J has been saying the sounds "Dadada" and "Mamama" for about a month. We're hesitant to claim that he is saying Mama and Dada. Last night, after his last bottle, he said what sounded exactly like "Done." We laughed about it and kind of brushed it off but this morning, Brian gave him a bottle and when he was finished, Jonathan said "Done, done, done." Crazy!

Schlitterbahn

Christopher and I were two very tired people yesterday after spending the morning at Schlitterbahn, a local water park. The park was open early for local swim teams to have all to themselves so we got to go on lots of fun rides in a short amount of time. It was so fun for the two of us to go on the waterslides together and it was the first time Chris was really fired up about some of the wilder slides! Of course, Schlitterbahn is the home of Verucht (spelling??), the tallest waterslide in the world, and as we were driving to the park, Chris kept telling me "We're going on that Mommy!" I kept telling him wait until you see how tall it is and also that going on that ride is like dropping straight down off of a 6 story building but he was having none of it... until we got there and then he changed his mind. "Maybe we should just go on these other rides," he said. :) Schlitterbahn is no Action Park, but a good time was had by all!

Stand in the Place Where You Are

JJ loves to stand up more than anything! And we've now brought up this toy that used to belong to his cousins and he is loving it. His balance is pretty good too--he let go and stood without holding on for seven full seconds before he realized that he can't really stand on his own yet!

Swim Meet

The Woodside Waves had their first (and only for this year) swim meet and Chris swam freestyle and backstroke (25m). He did awesome and won both of his heats! We were thinking that this was the first time we've seen him race in something that he could win and we were probably as nervous as he was. It was really fun to watch and I may have gotten him an ice cream sandwich after the meet, the remnants of which are on his lips in the picture above... I was volunteering during the meet so I got limited pictures but below is his team during warm ups.

And then here is Chris during his freestyle event...

Brian and I were never involved in swim team so this is a whole new experience for us to watch. We are so proud of our big man!

Happy Father's Day!

Baseball Party

Chris got to celebrate Sam and Noah's birthday today at the JCC where the boys hosted a baseball party! This, after two other school parties yesterday and then an actual baseball game after said baseball party. So far he says he is not partied or baseballed out!

VBS Night 3

Although there were no exciting special guests tonight, Chris and his class came to my theater station!

KC Wolf

So the Chiefs mascot, KC Wolf, heard how great Old Mission VBS was and showed up tonight for the kids. In case you're wondering if this is just a Kansas City mascot rally, it's not. But the theme for the week is "Do Something KC" and it's talking to the kids about how to help people in our city who are in need. But it's also celebrating the city itself and everything that is great about it!

Hangin'

While Christopher swims, Jonathan gets to hang out with his friend Maddie!

Slugger

Of all the churches in Kansas City to go to, Slugger chose Old Mission!
Tonight was the first night of VBS and Chris had a great time with his group. I had fun too helping out with the preschoolers in their music center. And when we left there was a beautiful rainbow waiting for us outside!

Brothers

Sometimes we will go back through old blog posts and there are certain pictures of Christopher when he was a baby that remind us of what Jonathan looks like now. While there are some marked differences between these two (their eyes, cheeks and amount of teeth), the resemblance is sometimes so close!

Bath Time!

J loves his bath time!

Baseball

Here is a pic of Chris' baseball team...
Not all the boys were there but this is most of them. Also Ms Kasey, the secretary from Pembroke's early childhood school, stopped by and got the boys who had been in pre-K to take a picture too...

Swimming!

We met a bunch of friends at the pool this afternoon and Jonathan got to have his first swim! After watching Chris for a couple of weeks, he finally got his turn and loved it. It was a little cold at first but after a few minutes he was splashing and smiling the whole time. We were in the baby pool and bit and then J and Noah hung around the sprinklers while Maddie and Chris went off to swim in the big pool. It was a fun afternoon with great friends!

Animal Orchestra

I came home this morning and found that Christopher made his own orchestra this morning with our babysitter Mackenzie using all of his stuffed animals!

The dinosaur is conducting and Atticus is playing the piano...
Also, Duckie and playing the "cello."

Finger Foods

Jonathan prefers the Puffs packaging to the idea of actually eating the Puffs...

Milestones

Jonathan has been doing all kinds of cool things recently!
  • While changing J last night before his bath, I noticed two new teeth that had broken through the top gums. (The top middle left and the tooth also right next to that one on the left).
  • He took three big crawling "steps" yesterday and is slowly but surely going places.
  • J waved to a girl at Christopher's game yesterday.
  • He is pointing to things in books that we read. Not necessarily when I ask him something but he will point to the things he seems to like.
  • J is pushing up from his tummy to sitting, therefore making the lowest level of the crib necessary!

Working

Putting this boy to work this summer...

Powell Gardens

We spent the day yesterday at Powell Gardens with Grammy and Liz. It was a fun day where Jonathan took his first trolley ride, Christopher climbed a giant metal praying mantis and we remembered what a sunny summer feels like!

Swim Team

Well, it was a balmy 63 degrees when Chris had his first swim tea practice. I don't know if they always do this, but the first practice was strictly poolside! The kids learned some form and technique and they will venture in the pool tomorrow. Chris was excited to know several friends from both in and out of school on the team this year!

In other news, Jonathan's favorite thing to say sounds like "Hi, Dada." So cute!
