Its a great day for hockey!

So a few weeks ago I signed Christopher up for a tennis class at the recreation center where he takes his art class with Luca. We were very excited for it and Chris couldn't wait to play tennis like his Grandma Jan! Unfortunately, not enough kids signed up for his class and they had to cancel it. So what to do, what to do... Ah ha! Sign the boy up for hockey! We have been taking him skating and he truly seems to love it. When we went to public session last week, the man who runs the rink told us that they would be starting a learn to play hockey clinic on Saturday mornings and no ice skating experience was necessary. We thought about it and signed him up! The good thing is the rink provides skates. We just had to get a helmet, gloves, and a stick, as you can see in the picture above. Now, Chris was not overly excited about the helmet but I think he'll get used to it. They are even going to give him a little jersey which will settle the debate between Brian and I as to whether we get him a Ranger or Devil jersey (we'll probably just go with Michigan). Anyway, the cutest part of the above ensemble are the little mini hockey gloves. Love them!!! I'm excited to see my boy try out the best sport in the world!

Skating with Clifford

KCPT, our local public television station, hosted a special "Skate with Clifford" event this morning at the Ice Terrace at Crown Center. Christopher was very excited about this event! He couldn't wait to show off his skating skills to his favorite red dog and he was also very curious to see how well Clifford skated. While we were waiting on line to get Chris his rental skates, Clifford came by and you should have seen Christopher's face. It was like he had seen a celebrity! He went right up to Clifford and gave him a high five. Here are some pics from our skating...

Chris has gotten used to the skating pusher (not sure what else to call it!) that he uses when we go to public session so I wasn't sure what he would do here without one. After awhile of holding my hand, he ventured out on his own and then didn't even want to hold my hand! It's a good thing because we signed him up for his very first "learn to play hockey" class next week at the Kansas City Ice Center. Very exciting! Anyway, here is some video of Chris skating just with Clifford!

And after the skating, we found a pizza place in our old Crossroads neighborhood that actually had some really good pizza. They called it New York Style and they were accurate in their description. We started with some garlic knots too and Chris said, "These are the best garlic knots ever!" That made the owner very happy...

Look at him go!

Chris and I went ice skating today at the KC Ice Center. After a few minutes of getting used to his skates, Christopher was off on his own (with the help of a skate walker, of course). He loved it and said to me that the walker was his "hockey stick" and he was "pushing the puck." Here is some video of his skating feats!

I Want My Hat Back

A couple weeks ago, Chris was "reading" a book to Grandma Jan and I wanted to share it with you all. The story is called I Want My Hat Back and it's about this bear who is looking for his missing hat. It turns out that a rabbit has taken his hat but the bear doesn't realize that the rabbit is wearing his hat when they are talking. The bear asks several animals about his hat but no one else has seen it. Finally he realizes that the rabbit is the one who stole his hat. The punch line is that the bear eats the rabbit in the end (some punch line!). Here is Chris reading the story...

Snow!!!

We finally had snow today here in Kansas and it put Christopher in a good mood from the second he looked out his window in the morning! Here he is in his snowsuit. Good news Grandma Jan, it fits!
And here he is playing in the snow. He was helping me "shovel" and also made a snow angel...

So I heard that pitchers and catchers report soon. Is that true? Because I'm totally ready.
