Yes

I know two year-olds are supposed to say "no" all the time, but Christopher is doing just the opposite. Yes, I should be happy about this fact and to some extent, I am. It just makes it difficult to get a straight answer...

Mommy: Chris, would you like to read "Thomas and the Big Bridge"?
Chris: Yes.
Mommy: Or would you like to read a Clifford book?
Chris: Yes.
Mommy: Or would you like to read "War and Peace"?
Chris: Yes.

Another example...

Mommy: Chris, what did you and Daddy do while I was gone? Did you play at the park?
Chris: Yes.
Mommy: Did you go to the trail and see the trains?
Chris: Yes.
Mommy: Did you have a wild and crazy party?
Chris: Yes.
Mommy: Did you go downtown and hang out at a bar?
Chris: Yes.

Here we are!

Okay, I know I haven't been updating the blog as much as usual. The life of a two year-old and his mom can be busy! So many trains to play, so little time...

Anyway, Kindermusik has started again. Yay!!! We missed our first official class but visited a class on a different day to make it up. Christopher got to see his friends Lucy and Aidan and he really enjoyed the new music (called "Milk and Cookies"... any wonder why he likes it?). He has a new teacher this semester, named Miss Megan. One cute thing from class--a little boy was having a meltdown on the floor (ah, thank goodness it's not just us!) and CJ went over and patted the little guy on his head as if to say, "It's okay, man. It's not that bad." I was so proud of his empathy!

Despite the fact that school has started here, our neighborhood summer playgroups are still going on. This morning, we met some of our friends over at Ernie Miller Nature Center to go for a nature hike. The weather was perfect for this today, nice and luke warm with lots of sunshine. We went on some off-road trails today that we had never been on before. Chris found two green leaves to hold, one for each hand, and he was off! I had to hold his arm to keep him from running too far ahead. The kid is fast! We hiked up a big mountain (Kansas style) and down again until we came to a stream. We hopped across the big rocks in the stream and then the kiddos proceeded to throw rocks into the stream. Chris is still working on his throwing arm so he had to stand close to the water to reach. And actually, he decided it would be a good idea to stand in the water, just long enough to get his shoes soaked and muddy. Nice! We enjoyed our walk and Chris got a yummy fruit roll-up from Missie, which he savored since he certainly doesn't get them around here, poor deprived kid.

Last week, Olivia came over to play and brought a work bench for Chris to borrow. Here he is playing with some good old power tools... just like his parents... hahaha!!! Oh wait, if it's not one computer, it's the other. Pictures will have to wait. We're working on it!

"Jamie, Jamie!"

I'm not sure which one of us was the biggest fan of Jamie coming to visit--CJ, Kasey, or me--but suffice it to say, we all had a fabulous visit with my best friend from college! Chris was very happy to see Jamie, and he wanted to make sure she got to see all the popular 2 year-old hot spots. We visited Deanna Rose and introduced Jamie to the cows, goats, chickens, and various others who live there. The weather finally cooled down that day so it was nice to meander through the farmstead without sweating. We also took Jamie to the gym and the trail and dined with her at Ingredient, one of our favorite eateries. Kasey, of course, loved all the extra attention she received from Jamie who was certainly missing her puppy, Zeus. And Mommy and Jamie talked up a storm! Christopher was not always happy about this but considering he is two, he did very well and put up with it. Jamie and I got out to have dinner and see Eat, Pray, Love (because, honestly, it's a chick flick and not one Daddy probably wanted to see). We have always been big Julia Roberts fans and Jamie is the only person I know who doesn't get mad at me when I start reciting lines from Pretty Woman--in fact, she usually joins in! Anyway, it was a great visit and we miss Jamie already. We're looking forward to seeing her again soon! And here is a cute shot she got of me and CJ...

I'm two, I'm two...

Christopher does everything right on schedule...

He was born on his due date.

He crawled on the day he turned 8 months.

He walked on the day he turned 11 months.

And on the day he turned two, he turned two. Aaahhhhhhh! And he hasn't looked back since, including a tantrum today that lasted all the way from Monkey Bizness to the gas station to our house (total=20 minutes). Good thing he's so darn cute!

After going over to visit Christopher's friend Emily and her new, adorable baby brother Connor this afternoon, we spent some time in our backyard playing. For once, it wasn't a billion degrees and the humidity was bearable so we took advantage. Here are some fun pics of our two kids...

Table for two

For Christopher's second birthday, Grandma and Grandpa Eric gave him a table and chair set. It is just perfect for him to eat his snack at and color in his new coloring books. Right now it is in a great location--right next to his kitchen--and he often will just sit himself down and start coloring. I may need to reconsider the proximity of the crayons to the couch, however, in the near future. We will see... Anyway, now that CJ is two, I decided to make some changes to his room (formerly the "nursery"--I think he's too old for us to call it that). A few months ago, our room darkening shade fell down and (given our lack of handy skills) has remained down ever since. In place of that, we used one of Brian's old blankets and hung it over the window in college student-like fashion to keep the light out. Mommy finally got around to purchasing real curtains yesterday!
I also felt a little crafty yesterday and decorated two pinboards with fabric and ribbon to hang up family pictures. Chris loves looking at his cousins and especially his animals (Otis, Nadia, and Kasey all made the board). On Wednesday I'm going to pick up a small red lounge chair for him to sit on while he reads that will make the room complete!

The Triplets' Baptism

Christopher and his parents made yet another trip to New York this past weekend for the baptism of Poppy, Elsie and Bennett Woglom. We had a wonderful time and we all couldn't believe how much the triplets have grown since we were there last month! Chris was a real trooper because on the day of the baptism, he only napped for 30 minutes in the car on the way to Brooklyn. This is a boy who is used to his three hour naps but he did very well, probably because he knew there was a whole lot of partying to do after the ceremony! Uncle Peter and Aunt Dabney had a bash to celebrate the baptism at their apartment in Dumbo and Chris did what he could to help them use up all the food they provided for their guests! Aside from getting to spend time with Christopher's cousins, our favorite part were the waffles provided by the waffle truck at the party. So yummy! Anyway, here are some pictures from our visit...

We're not sure why (except for the fact that she's absolutely adorable!), but Christopher (although he loves all of his cousins) is particularly attached to Elsie. While we were in Brooklyn, he was always concerned about where Elsie was and what she was doing. Here is Chris with his little Elsie...

Chris also was very excited to see Otis. I have to say, we're not sure if Otis was as excited to see him...
Brian and I are also the godparents to Bennett. Here is Brian holding Bennett at the party. Christopher was not as happy with his mommy holding Bennett during the ceremony, however.
We had a wonderful time this weekend and we are so proud of our nieces and nephew on their baptism!
