An explanation:
We've been reading this series of books called The Magic Tree House in which a brother and sister travel back in time to different historical periods to solve problems/riddles/mysteries. Yesterday we finished book #47 in which they traveled back to the time of when Lincoln was a young man. Chris was inspired by the description of the log cabin and the chores he had to do and so the result of that was the structure in the picture. Only we may refer to it as the "red pillow cabin!"

What could it be?

I'll give you three guesses as to what this pillow conglomeration might be...

A) Darth Vader's Death Star

B) Abraham Lincoln's log cabin, built by hand

C) An oversized dog house meant to contain three crazy dogs

KC Pumpkin Patch IV

We made our fourth annual trip down to Gardner, Kansas today to experience the KC Pumpkin Patch and pick out our Halloween pumpkins for this year. We realized that we have been going to this pumpkin patch since Chris was pretty small. There was a time that first year when I remember thinking, "Wow, look at how big those kids are" and now that describes Christopher. Here he is on the barrel train which, during his first year, I was praying he wouldn't just fall out of!

There were some new rides this year, including a potato sack slide...

And Christopher's favorite thing to do was the "haunted house." I place that in quotes because it was in a barn and it was literally a hallway with a few small displays of creepy things like Frankenstein and Dracula. But Christopher's new thing is to prove how brave he is so he was protecting us from all the scary monsters there! Anyway, after all the fun activities, we took a tractor ride out to the corn maze and pumpkin patch to make our pumpkin selection. The corn maze was fun and didn't take us too long to get through. Then we wheeled our pumpkins back to the car...

Oh and I forgot to mention that Christopher brought some reading materials for the very "long" hayride out to the patch (it was a book he illustrated and wrote this morning about Lion King).

After paying for our pumpkins, we returned to the car and had an "in-car" picnic. Chris was dying to sit in the driver's seat (car off, of course!) while he ate his PB&J.

Later in the afternoon, we decided to paint our pumpkins, which Chris and I had so much fun doing on our front steps! Chris was having a blast making a spooky face on his pumpkin and now they are guarding the house until we get to carve some other jack-o-lanterns later in the month...

By the way, Kasey had a procedure the other day to get her teeth cleaned so while she was under anesthesia for that, they removed a couple of growths on her head. She now has a couple shaved spots and stitches, which Chris is not exactly sure if he's comfortable with. Anyway, our child is giving her a lot of extra love. She made it through this minor procedure very well and has beautifully clean teeth and fresh breath!

Our new pup is getting the hang of how things work in the Woglom household. We have been working with a trainer and she is slowly beginning to chill out (or at least chill out when we ask her to). Until she sees bunnies in the backyard that is!

Dragged Kicking and Screaming

Dear Christopher,

I am writing this entry for you to read when you get older and perhaps to even share with your own children. You know how we all have funny stories from our childhood that we share with you and laugh about? You are even getting to the age when we can laugh about stories from your babyhood that we thought we might laugh about. You know, like the night we were driving home from Lawrence and you cried the whole way? Daddy and I said, "One day we will be telling Chris about how he screamed and cried the whole way home from Lawrence and we'll all be cracking up." Well, for that story, we are definitely at the cracking up stage. Today, I would like to add one to the one-day-we-will-laugh-about-this repertoire. We went to get you your first flu shot (something I'm not particularly a big fan of anyway) and after waiting in the lobby with 21 other children and their parents, we were called in. The moment we entered the hallway, you decided to say boo to the flu... shot. Long story short, I had to pick you up and carry you into the room where the poor nurse was waiting. The two of us had to hold you still in my lap (no easy feat) and it took her all of 2 seconds to give you the shot. In the process leading up to it, I'm sure I was kicked at least 5 times with your flailing legs and you tried your best to take a nice whack at the nurses hand. As soon as it was done, you were fine and you got your little plastic made-in-China fish from the prize box and we were out of there. Well, at least you didn't run away from the doctor down the hallway in your underwear! One day we will laugh at this... oh yes, one day we will laugh at this.

Legoland

We had a very fun weekend including spending the morning in Legoland at Crown Center! It was pretty cool and we found lots of great activities including car-building, a race track, airplane-building, a 4-D movie, and much more. Above you see Chris standing with a Merlin made completely of legos. (Chris loves Merlin because we are reading a series called The Magic Tree House that includes some things about Camelot and Merlin). Chris and Brian rode the Merlin's Apprentice ride and had a great time pedaling to see how high they could go!

Chris loved the car racing section and raced our own cars until he convinced himself that he won every single race! This video may not work but you can see a little how the car racing worked...

He also found a great spot just full of random legos that could be made into boats and planes. Obviously he was in heaven when he realized that he could add as many engines as he wanted to his homemade plane!

My particularly favorite part of Legoland was the model Lego city of Kansas City. It was so cool! They had models of Union Station, Kauffman Stadium, Arrowhead, the World War I memorial and many more. If we didn't have to leave for lunch, we would have stayed longer!

On another note, last night we had dinner with a family from Christopher's class and we had a lovely time and Chris had a blast with his friend, Andy, and Andy's sister Anna. The kids played while the grown-ups visited and we just had a great time. No pictures but good times!

Future Teacher?

Each day we receive an email journal from Christopher's teacher that tells about the different activities the children take part in. Now I know some of you also get the journal but for those of you who don't, I wanted to share this picture from today. I love that Chris is sitting with the girls reading them a Halloween story. It looks like he's got their full attention!
