Mmmm...coffee

So I totally jinxed myself yesterday by saying that Christopher slept and fed well! I should have bitten my tongue. We had several marathon feeding sessions throughout the night and it seemed like the only way I could make Christopher happy was to feed him. (Jan, does this sound like anyone you know?) Anyway, the feedings continued through some of the morning before I had to hand him off to Grammy (thank goodness for the extra set of hands) for a break. I actually got to go out during that time for 20 minutes of "Mommy time" and this included (brace yourself) a cup of french vanilla coffee from Kwik Shop. I haven't had a good cup of coffee in about 10 months and it was much needed, let me tell you. I'm not going to make a habit of it, for sure--I don't want a caffeine addicted baby who really doesn't sleep. But this cup of joe constitutes "food for my soul" right now and I am going to savor it for all it's worth. A side note: Christopher and Kasey are super excited about the new "Otis Rules" blog, to be found at otisrules.blogspot.com. We are looking forward to many more posts from Mr. O. MacGillicady in the near future.

Lunch on the Plaza

Sorry for yesterday's missing post but sometimes napping trumps typing! We had quite the outing yesterday. It was Christopher's first big lunch date and it was at a restaurant on the Plaza called Reverse. (Liz, it's the place we had brunch when you were here--the place with the french toast panini.) Grammy, Chris and I met Sarah (our doula--pictured above) there to catch up and visit. It was a really good lunch and Christopher slept through most of it. He only woke up once when he realized we forgot to order him a panini but then he fell back asleep. Grammy was even able to get coffee at Starbucks because our little man was passed out. He didn't start to get fussy until we got off at our exit and were almost home (which he tends to do more frequently now--I think he knows when we are getting close to the house because he cries louder the closer we get!). I had a couple sips of Grammy's coffee too. Mmmmm, espresso... As you can see in the above picture, we gave Christopher another bath so he could smell nice for all the ladies out at lunch. Chris decided that it would be a great time to relieve himself when we took his diaper off and started washing him. Good thing the kitchen is getting cleaned tomorrow! I don't want to jinx us but last night, we all slept really well. I think my grand total of shut eye was almost 6 hours! Of course, these were not consecutive hours but I'll take it. Christopher and I are pretty much in sync at night now. I hear him making noises with his mouth and I instantly wake up to feed him before any tears start. It's amazing how it works! Anyway, little man is conked out right now on my stomach, Kasey is conked out on Brian's side of the bed and when Grammy gets back from her walk, I'm going to conk out as well.

Another sling

Special thanks to Sheryl and MaryAnn who sent me the maya wrap sling they used with Julia. It is really cool and the material is already broken in which makes it easier to adjust. This picture is my first attempt at having him in the cradle position. Again, good thing they sent the DVD along with it! I want to get good at this whole sling thing because it will be nice to just wear the little guy around everywhere... I had my 2 week check up today and all is well. My mom came with me and we spent an hour with Kelly, the midwife who works with Dr. Michele (my doctor). Both of them are great and my mom was so impressed by the amount of time Kelly spent talking to us. I know most of the people reading this don't live in Kansas, but for anyone here in need of a doctor/midwife I would recommend these two women without hesitation. I just wish we had worked with them through our entire pregnancy! (We switched at 31 weeks.) While I'm at it I'd like to also recognize Sarah, the doula we worked with. She was such an incredible support to both Brian and I and I don't think we could have done it without her. Thanks Sarah! Anyway, I can't say enough about our "birth family" out here and I'm so glad we found them all... Christopher is doing well today. He came to the appointment and slept through the whole thing plus a trip to the grocery store. I'm going to try him in the sling one more time (he was too hungry before and I haven't mastered the whole "feeding him while the sling is on" thing) so I can get some things done. Bye for now!

Second Doctor Visit

Well I guess we have answered the question of how breastfeeding is going... Christopher weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz. today at the doctor. So he's regained his birth weight and then some. Everything else looked good on the little guy too. We are very happy with our choice of Dr. Brooks as Christopher's physician. He is laid back enough for us and has a very gentle way with Chris. Now we don't go back until September. Mommy's appointment was pushed back from Friday to tomorrow so we'll have that update soon... Our friend Jaime is coming over for lunch today and it will be nice to have company. Kasey is especially excited because she loves Jaime! Mommy has an appointment for a post-natal massage this afternoon too. Very exciting!

Oooooh, I love my new slippers!

So when we opened the mail yesterday, there was a package from my "cousin cousin" Liz that contained the adorable puppy slippers you see on my little feet in the picture on the right. They are so stinkin' cute I just want to wear them all the time! Thank you cousin cousin! In other news, it's about a thousand degrees here in Kansas. Mommy took me for a 2 mile walk this morning before it got too hot. She even ran 20 feet. It's a start Mom but I expect a lot more... I was not a happy camper by the end of the walk and I let everyone know it, including the neighbors! When we got back, the garage door wouldn't open so we had to ring the doorbell to get Daddy up to let us in. Before anyone gives Daddy poop about being in bed while we walked, he soon got up to mow the lawn and weed in this oppressive heat. Anyway, we are all staying cool inside today so we don't evaporate. We can't wait for the Olympics to start so there's something to watch on TV!

Big Outing

You know you're a new parent/getting old when... your Saturday night consists of a big outing with the dog and the baby to Petsmart and Dairy Queen. Let me tell you, we are really living on the edge because we are having our ice cream before dinner--and that's even with my mom here! Having a newborn is funny because your really don't get a chance to get out of the house until 5PM and it feels really good when you actually do get to go somewhere, anywhere! It is also exciting to take a shower and get dressed. These are the simple pleasures in life now. One more thought, when you are up all night, you have to reevaluate your priorities during the day--should I shower or take a nap? Which do I need more right now, some shut eye or to smell nice? (I guess it depends on who you ask. Christopher doesn't seem to mind if I smell, as long as I feed him. Brian on the other hand...) Anyway, Chris was very alert today and we sang "Itsy Bitsy Spider" with him several times during diaper changes. We also did a baby yoga pose--the chair pose. Very exciting stuff!

Two weeks ago today

I have to say that I am fresh out of interesting ideas for a post today so I'm going to just wish Christopher a happy 2 week birthday! So far he has learned to eat, sleep, poop, and cry as well as give us adorable newborn looks. Quite an accomplished young man! Anyway, today is Mommy's turn to go to the doctor so we will let you know how that goes.
